Hello, I'm Sara! I graduated cum laude from Columbia University's Barnard College, where I earned my Bachelors in English, then went on to University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts, where I earned my Masters in Writing.
I became a college counselor after discovering the unique satisfaction of helping my students get into their dream schools. I'd been tutoring for five years already, and a few of my students asked for help with their college essays. When the acceptances began rolling in, I knew that I wanted to provide this service to others.
Three years later, with hundreds of hours of experience helping students in their college and graduate school applications, I am confident I can guide you through every step of this process, and teach you the techniques necessary to get into the school of your choice. In addition to my own Ivy League education, I've honed a results-focused method that has helped students earn acceptances everywhere from Yale to MIT. I have even helped some students earn likely letters from various Ivy's, including Yale. (For anyone unfamiliar: a likely letter is a letter elite schools send out to top-tier applicants prior to official admission, to request that they refrain from accepting admission anywhere else. These are essentially wooing letters, indicating that a generous financial package can be expected; each school sends out only a hundred or so every application cycle.)
Using my results-focused method, I work will work with you to build college lists, draft essays, and then polish them until they demonstrate exactly what why each particular school needs to admit you.
I have been tutoring students in creative writing, academic writing, and literary analysis for over eight years in total. I currently live in LA with my cat, my books, and a small jungle of plants—including Aga'lemnon and Figmalion, my lemon tree and my fig tree, respectively.
Awards and Recognition:
I graduated cum laude at Barnard, receiving the Ethel Stone Lefrak Award for my literary analysis, and the Sidney Miner Poetry Prize for original compositions. My scripts have won Best Hour-Long Teleplay (Wildsound Film Festival) and Best First Time Screenwriter (Chicago Genre Competition), and placed in numerous other competitions, including the Oscar's Nichol Screenwriting Competition. My prose fiction has been professionally published in several fiction anthologies.
Please contact me for availability. I look forward to helping you earn that acceptance letter!
A Note on AI: Recently, I've had some students submit essays written by AI. I understand that coming up with that first draft can be overwhelming; however, you do yourself a grave disservice relying on AI to write it for you. It is painfully obvious. It also gives me very little to work with in terms of actual specific experience unique to your life, which is the entire point of these essays. In these cases, I can and will help with flow and the more awkward bits of language, but unfortunately I will most likely recommend that you start from scratch. I am available to talk if you need help brainstorming.
