How can I find a summer program or internship that is related to the major I want to pursue?

I am a high school junior. I’m wondering if there are any summer programs related to political science or pre law. I would like to attend one to see if I can get experience with this major and know for sure I want to pursue it. Also if there are any summer internships available to 17 year olds.

Given this is an election year...I would suggest reaching out to a local political campaign. You could volunteer from home and possibly find a mentor in the organization to guide and advise you. You could volunteer for a local issue you are interested in OR a candidate you want to support. Any structured summer programs will likely be cancelled or have the application date past, so be creative and be bold in making your own opportunity. You could also consider enrolling in an online college Poly Sci class. Many universities allow high school students to enroll in summer classes at reduced fees. Look to your local university first, if not available try BYU online or your state university.

I would recommend talking to your school counsellors or-if you have one-your school's college and career centre. They are both meant for this and they can help you talk to your local colleges and universities to see what they offer and how to apply! Since everything is a bit hectic right now with the pandemic, you could also email them. You should be able to find their emails on your school website.

Good luck!
