Would an admissions officer overlook average achievements/awards in terms of extracurriculars if a student had a strong essay that made a lasting impression on him/her? If you get national recognition for something, does that mean that you have a significantly higher chance of getting into top colleges than someone who doesn't have national recognition (but has a strong essay), given that each person has the same grades/gpa/test score?
Essays! Def super important. They are worth more admissions wise than ECs. They are the deciding factor.
