Is Duke's music school easier to get accepted into?
Answered

My GPA is 3.89 on a 4.0 scale and a 4.25 on a 5.0 scale. I got a 28 on my ACT (I'm retaking it in June 2021), and I've been recognized by numerous organizations, and I've won plenty of awards. I write my own music, and I'm in my school's choir. If I audition for Duke's school of music, do I have a better chance of getting admitted?

Hi,

The way it works at Duke and many colleges is that you apply to Duke in general and then say that you would like to major in music. I don't think you can apply directly to a school of music.

If you are passionate about music and want to study that at college then definitely list that as your preferred major and send a sample video with your application (https://music.duke.edu/undergraduate/future-students/admissions)

Having a passion for what you want to study will help make your application better and showing evidence that you can excel at it is always good but I don't think that it will be any easier to get into music as a major than it would with any other subject.
