Is there a specific format that teacher recommendation letters should follow or can it be any way?

Hello!

I was wondering what I should tell my teachers when asking for recommendation letters. I looked at some college websites, but none of them have a "teacher recommendation letter form" or any guidelines on how they should be formatted.

Should I just let my teachers write what they think would be helpful for me? Should I give them a reference to use to format their letter?

Thank you! Any help is appreciated :)

They should be familiar with the process; I've never needed to tell my teacher how to write their own letter. It's pretty straightforward, really; they just need to write a letter to the school describing what strengths they see in you and why they think you would be a great candidate at X school. The letters don't have to be school-specific unless specifically stated so.
