I've seen so many people use/talk about common app and I have no idea what it does. Can someone please explain what it is and why it's important? (Also I will be a Freshman in high school next school year so that's probably why I don't know)
Common App stands for Common Application. It is an organization/website that allows you to fill out your stats and personal info (like ec's, grades, SAT/ACT scores and demographics like location) as well as personal essays so that you can more easily apply to different colleges. Common App remembers these things for you so you don't need to rewrite all your info when applying to places.
Another great feature to Common App is that it has all the important factors about a certain school like early action/early decision dates, application fees, essay requirements, and info about the school like its website or virtual tours all in one place!
What's great is that even as a rising freshman, you can still open an account now and take a look at it and fill out some info if you want. (I actually learned this from someone on College Vine ;) you're always learning something new on here!)
The common app is a way of applying to colleges. Not all colleges accept it, but for those who do, It's an application you can use for multiple colleges. Some colleges will add specific questions or essays in addition to the general common app questions, and those can be required or optional. The common app covers grades, extracurriculars, and anything else a college needs to consider you. I hope this helps!
