Hi! I did the IB Program at my school, but I also took AP classes so I think I can offer some perspective on this with a pretty good balance :) Honestly, if you're someone in it just for the grade, I'd say IB is not for you. In my opinion, the entire IB program is much, much, MUCH harder than AP. That's not to say that IB is not worth it. In my opinion, it's ABSOLUTELY worth it if it suits your learning. For me, IB was worth it because I learned how to write proper research papers (IAs), and it wasn't rote memorization like AP. I'd say that's one of the biggest differences between AP and IB - AP is more about memorizing and preparing for the exam, and you're not really learning so much as acting like a robot in terms of memorizing information, but with IB, you understand new concepts, you're not just memorizing, you have to look deeper into everything and analyze the why. Neither option is easy, and again, it really depends on you. I think AP is generally a bit easier because you don't have to reflect or think too deeply as you have to with IB. Plus, AP is on a class by class basis, but IB is a comprehensive program. For me, doing IB was fruitful more than if I had chosen not to because now I got into my top choice university (UCLA) - however, I'll say this again, it really depends on you - for me, IB was the best choice because, although I can easily memorize and do well on AP exams (which I did, I took 6 AP exams total, four 5s, one 4, and one 3 - AP Physics 1), that's not really teaching me much because it's forgettable information that you can just cram the night before the exam, whereas with IB, I'm actually learning how to think for myself and be a better person :) That's just my two cents, I hope it was helpful!

Looks like IB will suit me better... I hate memorizing things. Unless I understand something thoroughly I won't remember it... but when I do, I will never forget it.

Thanks for your time, and have a good one! :)

IB higher level is, at some high schools, considered harder than AP. Most colleges give credit for AP exams and higher-level IB exams, but not all give credit for standard-level IB exams.
