It's good if you start preparing for SAT/ACT during your junior year. If your school doesn't offer AP's, don't worry, just mention this in your application. The best activities for MIT are Olympiads, Researches, and Volunteering. But it doesn't mean to put your time into extracurriculars. Focus on your grades and some activities. Remember there will be only 4 spaces for activities in the MIT application, so think wisely and prepare for extracurriculars.

Colleges aren’t actually that picky about what your extracurriculars are. It’s good to have one or two that relate directly towards what you’re interested in. Like if you’re going into politics, you should try mock trial or student government. Choose extracurriculars that will give you some idea of what you’re going into in college. Doing volunteer work and service also looks really good because it’s improving the community around you.

The best advice for picking extracurriculars is do something that you enjoy. Its better to pick a few and stick with them throughout high school so make sure that you like them lol
