sat-math student produced questions

hi I took the sat today...and in the four blocks of the student produced answers, if the answer is 5, can i fill 5 in the second or third block???

cuz i did....I'm so freakin scared rn...

Obviously that’s not preferred by collegeboard, but based on looking online (https://course-notes.org/test_prep/sat/math/introduction/special_rules_for_grid_ins and college board’s website) you should be fine if you started your answer in any of the 4 blocks, as long as you filled in the bubble to match your answer and didn’t put anything else in the other blocks.

ok thanks. but why was it not preferred by college board ?

Their official guide for how to answer the “grid in” questions says to either start at the leftmost one or at the rightmost one for however many digits your answer has, probably just to make grading easier so they have to program less correct answers into their grading machines

the guide in the test book on the test day doesn't say that tho...
