If you did ok in one semester but did good/great in other semesters will that hold you back?

If you did ok in one semester (like get b’s and c’s) but did good/great in other semesters will that stop you from getting into top school’s?

I think it depends on how strong the rest of your application is. If your GPA is on the lower side of the average of admitted students you could try to make up for it with strong EC's, test scores, and a great essay. Also the fact that they improved should also show for something. I forgot the wording a counselor used but it does say something good about you as it shows improvement rather than staying the same or slowly going down.
