Hi all,
I took a very challenging courseload as a sophomore this year (including AP Chem, BC Calc, and AP USH). By the end of this year, I will have two Bs in Calc, one B in Chem, and another B in a computer coding class. These Bs were caused by a terrible school schedule and the cancellation of finals, and I truly believe that I would have gotten As in a normal year.
Now my question is that does this rule me out competely from the Ivy League schools? If I get straight As next year, I will have an UW of 3.92+ which isn't reported to schools. Furthermore, my weighted GPA will be 4.5+ which puts me at the very top of my class although rank is unreported. Ignoring the rest of my application, can I, a non-hooked applicant, get into the Ivy League?
Note: I'm interested in finance and business.
Absolutely!
While colleges may calculate your weighted GPA differently than your school reports, a couple B's in any class is not the end of the world, especially if those classes are AP classes. In fact, I know several people who got into schools like Harvard without a perfect transcript. Some had B's and one even had a C (try not to get a C though, they had an amazing application other than that). As a sophomore, taking three AP classes is on the higher side, showing that you really wanted to challenge yourself in terms of class rigor, which will make colleges very happy with your coursework.
Assuming you can keep your grades up in the coming years and find impressive extracurriculars, I'd say you for sure have a chance at an Ivy League or at least top 20. Don't let something like this hold you back. You got this!
well, your gpa is okay, so dont worry too much. although most ivy league candidates have 4.0 uwgpa, its never a defining factor of your application. the thing is, you have to focus on other parts that are much more important. ur chances cannot be ruined just because your uwgpa isn't 4.0
