Admissions Advice

I am going into my junior year next year and have not been active in any extracurricular. How can I fix this?

I am currently a sophomore in high school and am not the best student. I have decent grades (3.1 GPA) but I have only participated in one extra-curricular activity so far, which is an on-campus sports team. Due to the virus, I have not been going to school for the past month, which kind of bummed me out because I had joining a volunteer club in mind. I am scared that since my grades are only decent that I won't be a very strong applicant for college. Is there anything that I can do to improve this? If so, can you please inform me on what I can do, as well as maybe recommend me on where I can do extracurricular activities, or just be informed? Thank you.

Hi, I'm a junior right now! I would definitely recommend increasing your GPA next year. A decent GPA is around 3.6-3.7, with the best unweighted GPA being 4.0. I also think you should join more clubs next year. My school has a day before school starts called Maze Day. This is the day we can sign up for clubs and hear more about them! If your school has something similar, definitely attend. A lot of officer applications for clubs are usually sent out during this time, so apply for a leadership position if you can! Study for the SAT or ACT this summer using CollegeBoard prep materials and Khan Academy. CollegeBoard has a scholarship opportunity if you follow their guidelines, so check that out! You can also do things online like start a website or a blog. I hope this helps you!

A good at home extra curricular right now would be to phonebank for a political party. You may want to consider picking one extra curricular, such as a job, and putting a lot of time in it. Colleges like to see what your passionate about.
