HOSA ILC Winner
Answered

Hey guys

I recently participated in the HOSA 2021 International Leadership conference where I competed in Medical Terminology. I placed in the top 10 at this in Medical Term from all the competitors throughout the world, and I got a big prize. I got $1,500, free ACT Prep for 4 years, free college essay help, and the opportunity to participate in a summer program worth $2,000.

I was wondering how this would look to colleges. Would it be a standout factor and would it help my BS/MD Application? How would colleges look at this accomplishment?

Let me know

It's going to look good for colleges. Generally any time you're able to place in a competition, especially in one related to your main interests, will be seen in a positive light. I don't know how many competitors there were but the fact it was an international competition will help.

This isn't a stand out factor in the sense that it will drastically increase your chances and guarantee your admission but it should help you stand out from plenty of other applicants because I would imagine many will not have placed in an international competition. You have to remember though, BS/MD programs are very competitive so there will still be plenty of students who apply that have done something similar. Overall though it's definitely going to look good and hopefully the experience was impactful enough you'll be able to include it in essays if necessary. Good luck and keep up the great work!
