How to format Extracurriculars on common app
Answered

Hi all, I’m looking for some advice in how to format one of my extracurriculars in the common app. I’m really involved with amnesty international, a human rights group, but my involvement has grown over time. I’m wondering whether to list my different roles within the organization as one EC or all separately.

My roles are here below:

High school club member - all four years, time commitment of 1 hour per week

High school club leader - sophomore, junior, sendup year, 3 hours per week commitment

New England student activist coordinator (manages all groups in my state in nearby)- end of sophomore, junior, senior year, 5 hours per week commitment

International board member (makes international policy, pretty big deal as only youth rep) -junior, senior year, 3 hours per week commitment.

I’m really not sure how to best list this on the common app, and would appreciate some advice!

Hey!

Thanks for reaching out with this question. To help showcase your strengths and leadership roles, I'd suggest including the highest ranking positions within each organization where your role changed or grew over time.

Here's a CV blog post with more insight on this and some examples on how to list your extracurriculars! https://blog.collegevine.com/how-to-fill-out-the-common-app-activities-section/

I hope this helps!
