Should I take the SAT?
Answered

I am currently a Junior at my High School and I am not sure if I should take the SAT. I was thinking that instead of spending my time practicing and taking the SAT, I could just focus on my grades and extracurricular.

If you think you can do well on it I would take it if it's not a financial burden. By do well I mean get a good score for your desired school without having to study more than a few months.

If you have a good gpa compared to your dream schools, have taken a few AP classes to show rigor and have some solid ECs I would focus on improving my ECs and start drafting essays for the app. Unless you think a good SAT score could help give you a boost if say your GPA is a bit on the lower side I think your chances are as good as anyone who does take it and does well.

If your school offers a free testing date (I'm pretty sure all schools do), I would recommend going on a two to three-week study grind beforehand and seeing how you do. There have been so many students admitted to T20s without SAT scores though, so whatever you decide is fine!
