Will 11th Place in a Science Olympiad Event Help me for College Apps?
Answered

Hi I am a Junior and I just participated in the Princeton University Science Olympiad Invitational and I placed 11th for Data Science out of 51 and I am wondering whether it would improve my application and whether it would help or if I need something solid and physical like an award. I needed to get 6th place to win an award. Thank You!

I think you can include it in your application if you don't have many other awards to add, but I don't think it's going to be extremely significant. You can keep entering competitions that you're interested in or try to work for some academic awards from your school too!

Congrats to you and your team on the high finish!

Short answer: YES! (especially if you want to major in smth science-y)

I know the other answers say the opposite of what I'm about to say, but here are a few reasons why you should:

1. 11th out of 51 IS good! Besides, it shows that you care about science, you're involved, and you were recognized for it.

2. Put everything! You want to list every accomplishment/leadership position/extracurricular on your application. It shows that you try and you add to your community (which is what they want you to do at their university).

But if you have something more significant/something that matches your interests better, put that first ;)
