What classes and extracurriculars are good for an education major?
Answered

I'm going into sophomore year and want to major in education but don't know what classes would look good for college applications. I've heard that classes and extracurriculars help admissions if they paint a picture for the major you're applying for but, don't know which ones would do this.

What type of education? Elementary? Secondary? Dual-Language? Special Ed?

Psychology courses so you can understand thought patterns and begin your understanding of child development and so you could understand students with mental health issues better. Also, any sort of job/volunteer work where you're working with children (day care center, tutoring, piano lessons, babysitting, etc.)

Hi, it’s great that you’re thinking about this early in high school! As someone else mentioned, taking psychology classes in high school would be good, as it shows you have at least a basic understanding of how people learn. Also, as far as extracurriculars go, volunteering at after school children’s programs or being a camp counselor/teacher would be great way to show interest/experience with children’s education.
