Admissions Advice

I'm wondering how to join prestigious clubs outside of school? What are some good ones?
Answered

I'm a junior in high school who loves history and biology...( I scored a 5 on my AP World History Exam last year). Are there any competitions I could take place in that maybe specialize in these specific concepts?

Hi there @Skumar!

There are plenty of extracurriculars in both subjects you can pursue.

Here's a link to biology competitions: https://blog.collegevine.com/4-biology-academic-competitions-for-high-schoolers/

Here's a link to a complete guide for extracurriculars: https://blog.collegevine.com/your-complete-list-of-extracurricular-activities/

These two resources should hopefully get you started in developing some serious accolades to add to your resume.

Alternatively - have you considered a spike? A spike is an extracurricular area of expertise that you can develop. One way we recommend developing a spike is by meshing two existing, disparate passions into a self-driven project that combines the two. For example, you could do a research project on historical biology, or start a blog with articles bridging historical time periods with biological evolution. A spike is a great way to stand out from other applicants and demonstrate your expertise in your chosen fields.

For more information on spikes, you can check out this YouTube video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=30evWEhB21E&ab_channel=CollegeVine

Hope this helps!
