I have a 1440 SAT and a 32 ACT. My counselor told me not to but other people have told me to send them.
I'm not sure you have a problem, nevertheless, tread lightly with your college counselor.
The only explanation they might have is if you are an "out of state" applicant because SAT for out of state is much higher at 1370-1540 versus 1250-1460. Your 1450 is right in the middle even for out of state. Although ACT score for out-of-state is not published I'm sure they are in the 30-34 range so your 32 is also right in the middle.
If you are applying as an "IN STATE" applicant I feel you might be singled out.
Consider a notation on the Add'l Information section where you can write about things that the Application Readers do not know about. If you apply to UNC-CH, perhaps readers should know that your counselor told you not to submit your test scores.
In the future, I would not share too much about where you are applying. You might not have your counselor advocating for you. Therefore, be extremely careful with who you pick as your 2 teacher recommendations. They need to go to bat for you.
To hedge yourself, make sure you apply to many nearby schools that would consider a 1450/32 a good score like Wake Forest, Davidson, Washington and Lee, William and Mary, and University of Richmond.
1440 SAT and 32 ACT are totally within the range of being competitive at UNC. I'm not sure why your counselor would suggest not sending them but I definitely would. 1300 is considered kind of the minimum so you are well above.
To keep this community safe and supportive:
Thank you. I actually am an out of state applicant. I understand that my scores are right in the middle, so that is why I'm not sure if they will help or hurt me. I'm applying early action as well. I don't know if that makes a difference in what you would advise.
