I have looked online but I would like some clarification.
Hey @Person47! I'm Matt -- I'm a data scientist here at CV and have been responsible for collecting data on majors and career paths. This is a great question, thanks for asking it.
Anesthesiologists are just specialized doctors, so it probably makes the most sense to major in something that'll put you on track to become a doctor and get you into med school. I looked up the most common undergraduate majors for current doctors in our database, and these were the top five: Biology, chemistry, biochemical sciences, psychology, and nursing. The next five were health and medical prep programs, physiology, multi-disciplinary or general science, molecular biology, and microbiology.
All of our data on majors and careers comes from the Bureau of Labor Statistics and the Census Bureau (specifically the American Community Survey).
And here's a link to the BLS that might be helpful: https://www.bls.gov/ooh/healthcare/physicians-and-surgeons.htm#tab-4
Let me know if you have other questions!
You can major in anything! you would just have to be part of the Pre-med program.
