Hi,
I am in middle school and am wondering what I can do for extracurriculars to up my chances of getting into a good college (med school). I want to do something really "cool" and standout. My dream school is UC Berkeley; my GPA, grades, etc. are top-notch (if I do say so myself), so I my focus is on having brilliant extracurriculars.
Thanks in advance!
P.S. My major will be in Biology, or more specifically, Neuroscience/Neurobiology
As a 7th or 8th grader, there isn't a lot of medical school-related ECs you can do.
If I'm not mistaken you have to be 16 and medically cleared to volunteer at a hospital these days.
I suppose you could self-study for Biology, Anatomy, or Chemistry before you take it in High School. And certainly, belong to some STEM-related clubs in school. I would take a CPR course and get certified (I don't know how strong you are but the compressions take some effort and strength).
Maybe be a content creator on YouTube and have a channel dedicated to Neuroscience for middle/high school audiences. Sometimes I watch Prof. Soborno Isaac Bari's videos. They're not very good but then again the kid is 9 years old and he has no problem talking to MIT and Harvard Students and quizzing them on subjects like Gravity and Black holes.
Good Luck
As a middle schooler, there is not a lot you can do to work towards college, but you can set yourself up for success in HS. Maybe join a MS science club, or start learning a musical instrument so that you can start HS band in your freshman year. Right now your focus should just be on getting yourself ready for high school. And have fun! Middle school shouldn't be a stressful time for you. Good luck, hope this helps.

Thanks @CameronBameron! The YouTube channel is a very interesting idea, I'll certainly contemplate that. Thanks for your help! And by the way, if I do decide to start a YouTube channel, how can I get MIT and Harvard students (or other "successful"/"reputable" people) on my show (like Prof. Soborno Isaac Bari does)? Thanks again!
