Is it a good idea to write about my struggle and overcoming mental illness? Or is that too risky?
I believe this is ok, as long as you were able to provide actual insight within your experience and how you came to overcome it. College admission counselors want to see how you were able to move forward from a problem and what you did shows how you didn't limit yourself despite your condition.
P.S I know writing something like this is very hard, especially since it's quite personal. Just remember to be genuine as possible and don't focus too much on the hardships but more one the overcoming part. I wish you the best of luck in your applications!
Hi, thank you for asking your question! I completely agree with @Jemimah because they know that the Common App is a great place for you to let the admissions officer know you on a personal level. At the same, note that the essay is also a place to show self-reflection and growth, and if you can do this by sharing your mental health journey go for it. It will likely be a very powerful essay.
