I’m in North New Jersey, and I wanna do things that would try to show I have a passion for business and international/global affairs majors. I already have plenty to show that I do, however I’d like to put more.
I’ve heard that there are things organized by the state with youth that look really good on applications, but I’m not so sure. Any ideas?
Hi there @KenanB,
When it comes to extracurriculars that show prowess in business and international affairs, you have a lot of options depending on your passions.
The most common options are organizations like FBLA and DECA, which have conferences and other leadership opportunities you can take advantage of to boost your application. Be sure to engage with the organizations past being a participant or member, as simply filling the base role in the club will not make your application stand out.
Consider reaching out to local businesses for internship or volunteer opportunities that can help you gain a foundation in business. You could also try starting your own business, even if it's just an Etsy shop or some other small-scale operation.
If your focus is more global-affairs oriented, consider joining competitions like Model United Nations or one-off conferences that can help you solidify your debate and diplomacy skills. Regardless of what you choose to do, the key is to demonstrate an interest and skills in the area of study you plan to pursue in college.
Hope this helps!
Hi! I personally want to major in business and I have a couple different ECs down that relate. The first one is that I own a small ecommerce business. This is a big time commitment, but it is a great EC to show that you love the major. Second, I would look into activities that evolve the qualities of a business major (AKA, a leader). I personally am a volunteer softball coach. It is very similar to business in the organizational aspect, just not financial wise since it is volunteer work, lol. Lastly, I'd suggest getting an internship or a job in the field that you want to enter. For example, I am interested in hospitality management, and I currently work at a country club.
I hope that you find this helpful, best of luck to you!! :)
I’d suggest doing Model UN or Debate to show you know about international issues and can argue your ideas effectively. I also know that some schools have clubs dedicated to politics and connected to the state, so showing an interest there might help as well.
