Common App language section
Answered

Hi! The common app asks about what languages I know. It gives the option for a first language, speak, read, write, and spoken at home. What do I do if I am fluent in 2 languages and English is not my first but is still my stronger language? I was born in the US to immigrant parents so English is not my first language nor do we speak it at home, but it is still my stronger language since I received all my schooling in it. Do I still just fill in speak, read, and write for it? This might be overthinking but I want to be sure.

Yes, you are overthinking it. Check off speaking, reading, and writing for those 2 languages you use at home. Good luck.

You want to list English as your main language and then the other language as an alternate. Colleges don't look quite that closely into which languages you speak and in what manners (speaking, reading, etc.). Simply check off what applies for each one.

Hope this helps! :)
