What tier extracurricular would being a finalist at a math modeling contest(HiMCM) be?
Answered

I participated in a contest called HiMCM(https://www.comap.com/highschool/contests/himcm/index.html) with a team of 3 people and our team got finalist in November 2020. This is a high school math modeling contest, and there were 779 submissions to the contest, of which 8 teams received Outstanding(the best rank), and 56 teams who received finalist(the next best rank).

Given the amount of work and prestige involved with this contest, I am unsure whether this award would be a tier 2 or tier 1 activity. It required 3-4 hours of work over 2 weeks in November. Would this fall into tier 1a, 1b, 1c, 2a, 2b, 2c, or lower, and why?

I would say this is definitely a tier 1 activity. It's academically challenging, prestigious, and a good reflection of your student profile.
