How do dorms work for transgender and non-binary college students in California?
Answered

This is really question for co-ed schools only - I don't think a single gender school would work for me.

Are there widespread guidelines for students like me? Are we allowed to self-define our (a)gender(s), or do college officials pick where we stay? Is there anything I should know while applying to stay in college dorms as a transgender and non-binary person?

Thank you so much!

I would start by doing a google search on gender inclusive housing in CA.

One school that has been leading the way is Pitzer College which is part of the 5Cs.

Others I found were

CSUMB - Cal State Univ. Monterrey Bay

UCR- UC Riverside

UofSF - University of San Francisco

USC - Univ of S. Cal

CSUSB - Cal State Univ. San Bernardino

UCD- UC Davis

UCSC- UC Santa Cruz has specific Trans housing.

Chapman

CSSLO- Cal State San Luis Obispo

UCLA

UC Berkeley

Claremont McKenna College and Pomona (only after your first year)

Actually most of them are either gender inclusive and some are trans specific.

Hope that is helpful.
