You can get admitted to university as long as you have met all the universities core requirements and are on track to graduate with your high school class your senior year. If you will not earn your diploma by next May/June and have missing credits/units, I do not think you can get a pre-clearance to continue HS after graduation and finish up at the end of summer. This might be a case by case basis with the colleges you are intending to apply to.
If you are referring to attending summer school between 11th and 12th grade, the it doesn't matter as long as you graduate with your class on time.
