Prospective major change

When I was interviewing for a college, I told them I wanted to major in X and Y. Since then, I've changed my mind, and I now want to major in X and Z. What should I put in my application so they won't get confused?

Hi @bendajew! That shouldn't be a huge issue unless you are interviewing for those specific majors. At most schools, you should be able to change your major fairly easily and the major you list on your application isn't binding. That being said, it depends on the school specific policies, so make sure that the majors you put down on your app are not binding.

Usually during the application process, interviewers know that you may not be completely sure about your major so it will not be a huge issue if you mention one major in your interview and another one in your application. The only way I see it being a potential issue is if the major you mention in the interview and the one you put in your app are vastly different, like Philosophy vs Chemistry. Even then, if you have a reason for making that change, you might want to include it in the supplemental essays so admissions officers that are reviewing your application do not feel like there are discrepancies between your application and the interviewers' notes.

Hope that helps!
