Will dropping to an A- in 2 classes in senior year affect my chances at a competitive school?
Answered

Hi I’m a senior in high school and as the first semester is coming to an end I’ve found that I’m ending with 2 A-‘s. The two classes are AP Econ and AP Lit. The main reason for these grades are not because of lack of trying but rather I’ve found the content hard and I’ve put in the work to understand the concept but haven’t performed as well as hoped on the tests. I’ve had straight A’s throughout my high school career but would this drop in grades on my Mid-Year transcript impact my chances at a competitive college?

Hi, thank you for asking your question! I would not be worried at all, A-'s are still exceptional scores in AP courses. Additionally, senior year grades are not as impactful, unless there is a significant drop, on your chances of admissions to top-tier schools.

I would check out this blog post for more details.

Having 2 A-s will have zero impact your academic narrative. I would try my best to maintain those if possible. Don't worry about it. Good luck.

At this point I don’t think so. It shows your human. I think the decision for you to be accepted or not at any institution will be decided on other factors. Don’t sweat it!
