Extra-Curriculars for English/Writing?
Answered

I want to become more involved in literary/writing-based clubs and organizations, but my school is so small that NEHS is the only opportunity I have. I'm interested in writing competitions and essay scholarships as well, but I'm struggling to find websites that are legit and reputable. Do you have any suggestions? Thank you!

START A CLUB!! You have the perfect opportunity to start a club and show colleges your dedication, even if it's just you and a couple of your friends. In that club, apply to scholarships and competitions and list those as things you did as part of your club. Ask Reddit for competitions and scholarships, here's a link to some: https://www.reddit.com/r/literarycontests/ and https://www.reddit.com/r/writingcontests/

Hi @lexi_meador! Like @moth said, starting a club is a great idea. That way, you have the flexibility of molding the club into the way you'd like it to be, and you'll also have a leadership position!

Here's an article from our blog about some writing competitions: https://blog.collegevine.com/the-college-vine-guide-to-high-school-writing-contests/

I've also heard quite a bit about the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards, so I highly recommend checking it out too: https://www.artandwriting.org/awards/

Hope that helps!
