I am an Indian international student applying to several top-tier universities, including a few Ivy League Schools. After I submitted my application, I was informed that I will receive the 2022 SAT India Top Performer Award for my performance on the SAT test. Should I submit a document to the colleges informing them of this update? I have heard that sending additional documents for things that are not important enough could affect your admission chances. Is this achievement important enough to submit an additional update document?
If I'm not mistaken, I think anyone who scores higher than 1300 or 1350 (90% percentile score) in India, gets this award certificate. I do not think having this award benefits your admissions chances, especially in the eyes of Ivy league admissions officers who are expecting you have middle 50% SAT score of 1450-1550 for the most part.
If are applying to schools where the middle 50% SAT score range is 1150-1250, then submitting this extra document can't hurt you if you want to do that. But remember everyone reading your Common App file will see your real scores anyway so I'm not sure what the upside is.
If you have NEW information that is not on your Common App such as being US Presidential Scholar finalist or wining some National Award for your academics where only 50 or 100 people get awarded that, I think such an honor makes you quite a special candidate.
But if you submit things like meeting the 90th percentile threshold on a SAT score when the schools are looking to admit those with 98-99.9% percentile scores, I'm not sure that adds to your competitiveness.
Hope this is helpful.
Good luck.
Hi @blossom! Congratulations on getting the SAT India Top Performer Award- that's amazing! I agree with @CameronBameron that since this is an award certificate that anyone with a score over 1300 receives, it will probably not add any new information to your application. The admissions officers reading your application will already know that you got above a 1300, so another document stating the same thing will not necessarily help. When trying to figure out what sorts of updates to send in, think about things that you have done recently that you may not have had the chance to mention on your application. Have you started participating in a new club? Did you receive a new award? Were you featured in a news article in your community about a project/initiative you spearheaded? Those sorts of things would be really cool updates that the admissions office would love to hear about.
Hope that helps!

I believe so, while documents that aren't important can negatively affect the admission rates, this is a national academic merit award and would likely help your admissions rate.
