Can having a friend at a university, help me in any way?
Answered

Hi everyone! I have decided that I want to go to NAU. (Northern Arizona University) I've already been accepted, but I just realized/remembered that I have a friend that is graduating from NAU this year or the next.

Can having him there, help me in any way? Specifically financially, because I've already been accepted and he doesn't serve as a recommender.

I know it's a pretty dumb question but hey, I don't lose anything by asking

Thank you!

Knowing people who attend a college doesn't improve your ability to get financial aid since your friends are not your family and the finaid office only cares about your specific family's income/assets and ability to pay. You will not get any kind of tuition discount or perks because you know other people who attend there.

The only time having a friend already at a college you are applying to can help is if the college has a "peer" recommendation requirement or option. I know that Dartmouth has a "peer" recommendation option. If you get a positive thumbs up from someone you know at Dartmouth, that can help you a little bit with your college admissions decision.

Hope that clarifies things for you.

I really doubt it would.
