I don't have very strong extracurriculars, but it's only my freshman year so I have time to improve and build a "spike". I've been taking private violin lessons for 5 years and passed an audition for the All County Orchestra just recently. I also do debate and my captain said that they want me in an officer position in the future. I volunteer at my local library but only have about 15 hours so far. Aside from that, I'm part of a couple other clubs like medical club and operation smile, ect. They are mostly things that relate to what I want to go into (pre-med). I'm also going to try out for varsity tennis and have secured a manager position if I don't make the team. When I'm old enough, I'm planning to volunteer at a local hospital. Next year, I'm going to join all the honor societies I can, join more clubs, and enter more violin competitions. However, I don't have anything that really makes me stand out. I'm going to apply to top schools so I really need a sort of "spike".
I think the best thing to do right now is to create your own opportunities since many aren't available to you currently. Start your own club, organization, business, non-profit. Something where you can show leadership, make a positive change in the world, and establish a passion for one of your interests. It could even combine a few of your interests. Maybe something where you play music at hospitals.. I'm not sure about that one, but just be creative with it. As long as you do something you genuinely are interested and you can see yourself working on all through High School, anything you do will be great. Good luck with school, you got this! :)
