My GPS is 3.4 and as of right now I'm doing really well in school and I enjoy being here. My dream college is John Jay College of Criminal Justice. I want to be a homicide detective or a missing persons detective and work in Philadelphia or New York. My acceptance rate is 47% while every other college I put in was way higher. (In the 80-100%). It upset me that my dream college was the lowest of them all and I need to know how I can bring that up.
I don't understand what the problem is: The average high school GPA for admitted students at John Jay is 2.95. It is not a competitive school.
It all depends on what you do to achieve the goal of furthering your education inside and outside of school. Have you joined/entered clubs, courses, or classes that may seem significant or educational? Are you in any Honors societies? Colleges don't only look at grades and GPA but extracurricular activities, behaviors, essays, test scores, and so much more. Sometimes doing small things such as creating a resume can boost up your chances because colleges see that you are dedicated to being prepared and you have a focus on your goals. I recommend looking at their Freshman Admission Requirements at the link below.

Please remember that your acceptance chances are usually based on ethnicity, scores, and grades but they don't capture your personality, something that many colleges look at. Sometimes who you really are can get you into a college.
I would make sure your essays/letters of recommendation are really good since this will make you stand out. You can also show demonstrated interest (which some schools consider when admitting students) by attending a tour, info session, etc. A 47% chance is still a very good chance and sometimes these chancing calculators are not the most accurate. If you continue taking similar level/appropriately challenging courses, I am sure you'll get into your dream school. If not, there are so many great programs at other schools and I am sure you will be able to accomplish all your goals. Best of luck!
