What else can I do to get into a great college (NYU, Emory)/what can I improve?
Answered

Hi, I am currently a freshman in high school. I have a 4.0 unweighted and i’m on route to take around 6 APs/ 7 honors classes. My rank is 16/473. I am a jv athlete for winterguard with two 1st place awards. I am the president of the gardening club. I am currently an intern for a new investing app. I have some volunteer hours at an equestrian place. I also partnered with a friend and we are planning to start a small business.

Hi! Your profile is really interesting. I would say that do not worry about your GPA and class rank just yet. You are still a freshmen and there will be many ups and downs until you get to your senior year.

For academics, just focus on taking challenging course, which you already seem like doing, and keep making good grades in your classes (A). This will ensure that your GPA and class rank are maintained.

As for the extracurriculars, they are solid. Starting a business, being an intern, being a president of a club, and having won two 1st place awards as a freshmen is awesome! Your portfolio is very diverse.

I think what can really help you is taking more advanced classes. Since your extracurriculars are so strong, the only thing you can do to improve your chances of admission to a top college is take more AP/honors classes. I would say take at least 9-10 AP classes and few more honors classes to improve your coursework. And do not forget to prepare for the SAT/ACT. They also affect your score.

Good luck with your business!

One question: what exactly is gardening club? what do you do in it?
