Hey! I’m a current freshman at a very small public high school and was interested in starting a newspaper. I asked my guidance counselor and she directed me to the principal, after a couple weeks of him researching past newspapers, he said no. We have a class called broadcast journalism which he recommended for me.
I still want to write articles and interview people in my town. What do I do?
Also look out and see if you have any small newspapers locally. I know in my town we have a smaller paper that encourages/incorporates youth voices, and it couldn't hurt to reach out! You could also consider starting your own outside of school.
Create a blog and home someone reads it.

Well what exactly do you do in broadcast journalism? I think that you should definitely try that out first! If it seems like a good fit, maybe then you can try talking to the teacher of that class and see if they would be willing to help you start and to sponsor such a club. There are also a lot of online journalism internships that I think would be great for you! Such as the one for girlslifemag, one that I am in for grlmag, and plenty more I'm sure!
