I'm a High School student from the Southern part of India (Board ICSE) and my high school doesn't have Honors classes. AP courses can be taken separately (out-of-school) and so can the examinations. But, the problem lies with the Honors Classes, I probed a lot for resources and information regarding this on the internet but failed to acquire any answer that was satisfactory. Please let me know what should be done regarding this.
Hey so Indian schools, at least ICSE, CBSE, SSC, do not provide honors courses. It isn't a part of our system. Instead, focus more on your in-school grades and be consistent in exams and on your mark sheet along with doing some ECs that you feel are relevant towards the major you want to pursue, or things you are passionate about. And also know that you aren't disadvantaged just because you cant go for honors in a subject. Instead, if you want to show your proficiency in a subject either take the SAT/ACT and try your level best to get a 1500+/32+, or show your proficiency in the subjects you study in school by getting consistently high scores, following an upward trend in grades, meaning that you should try to make sure that you improved in every test.you gave your best effort to improve and showing that even if you got like 70-80% in your first/second year of high school, you could still learn and improve and get higher marks in 11th and 12th.
Hello!
One thing that colleges look at is course rigor. This means that they will see how much you are challenging yourself by taking hard classes.
They look at the amount of AP/Honors/Advanced classes that your school offers, and then they look at how many you took.
If your school offered 40, and you took 10, then it would not look as appealing to colleges! However, if you're school offers 10, and you took 8, then it looks great. If your school doesn't offer any, then there's nothing to compare you to :) Just take the harder classes that your school offers, do well on them, and it'll be fine!
Colleges will receive your transcript and basic information about your school. They won’t reject you for not taking honors since they know it’s not an option for you. However, taking APs on your own would be impressive.
