I’ve been reading up on some EC articles, and I’ve discovered that most of my extracurriculars are more well rounded. Does that heavily impact admission? I am planning on majoring in film production. I am taking a course in it in high school, as well as a publications class next year. But my extracurriculars are theater and 2 sports; not much else. Are there any clubs I can join to improve my profile? Would a community service club look good or should it be more grouped with my interests? I also do creative writing for fun; I’m not sure if that helps. If anyone has advice I would greatly appreciate it! Also I don’t know if this helps or not, but I will be a sophmore next year and I’m aiming for UCLA.
While extracurriculars should be centered on your major, doing what interests you is what matters the most. Creative writing is an amazing activity for Film Production. Try to see if you can be published in a local paper or literary magazine. Additionally, enter any creative writing contests you may come across to make your work stand out. If you can find film related clubs or organizations at you school or perhaps opportunities outside of school (extra classes or dual enrollment related to Film Production), that will bring your application to the next level. Generally, do what's interesting to you. Good luck!
Instead of focusing on adding more extracurriculars, I suggest you a cement your standing in an extracurricular. It's better to be a leader of one or two programs than to have multiple ECs where you have little to no contribution.
