What should my “spike” be? I’m going to be a senior this fall and I haven’t really done anything in Highschool.
Answered

I’ve volunteered at the library (20 hours), at an oncology clinic (37), and at my church (30-40 hours over about 3 years).

I know all of these are okay but I’m pretty sure colleges want to see that I was invested in something significant in my school years.

Due to covid, I was at home for most of Highschool except for this year (Junior Year) and now I’m scrambling to find something competitive to add to my resume.

I am very much interested in psychology, research, and medicine type stuff. What do y’all suggest that I do this summer/senior year that can incorporate these? Any programs?

I recommend pursuing a self-driven passion project during the summer before senior year. Since you have already volunteered at an oncology clinic, and your interests generally point towards a medical/research direction the most, perhaps you could start a project relating to a niche area of medicine. Ideally, your project will have a tangible, quantifiable impact on the real world. This CollegeVine article has a few examples of EC projects that you can start at home. Hope this helps!

Try a pre-college program over the summer at a local university depending on where you live try and make it as prestigious as possible. This will help colleges understand you like academics.
