Ok so I don't know if this is true, but I've been seeing things all over the internet about how everyone is getting rejected from UF. The last time I checked they weren't extremely hard to get into. Now I'm nervous. I have a 3.9 unweighted GPA and my SAT superscore is a 1300... do you think I actually have a chance of getting in?
Your GPA is great and your SAT is only 10 points below the 25th percentile. It can definitely help to increase your test scores but that simply isn't enough to justify why you should be admitted according to UF's standards.
I think people misunderstand how University of Florida's admissions process works. Most people think that if a college is public, they'll likely primarily care for just GPA and test scores. Maybe this is true for other public schools, but UF is an exception. According to the 2020-21 University of Florida common data set [1], the admissions office cares as much for extracurriculars and essays as they do for GPA and test scores. UF even explicitly says themselves that: "While some applicants will be admitted to UF based primarily on their academic background, the majority will have a thorough review of academic and non-academic information." [2] Grades simply aren't enough. Make a good impression on UF just like you would any private competitive college, otherwise you're fighting against the odds.
Best of luck!

Hi, I'm just here to share my experience with my friends applying, but I don't have a sure answer. I know that because of the recently growing desire to move to Florida, a lot more people have applied. They are checking more extracurriculars, so if you have a lot of stuff to put in your application I think that will help you. I don't know about you, but I live in Florida and a ton of people plan on going there, but out of my senior friends, (I'd say around 10 applied), only 3 got in. From hearing about their stats, their GPA wasn't as important when compared to their activities and experience. I hope that this doesn't stress you, and I'm hoping that you get in!
As someone who is also hoping to get into UF- I've heard the same things. They're only accepting a fraction of the students who apply now because of the whole global panorama situation, but roughly the same number of students are applying as before. Basically, the admissions rates are much lower because UF isn't accepting as many students now, which means that yes, it will be more competitive. A 3.9 unweighted GPA is very good, though, and I believe higher than the average unweighted GPA of a UF student. Personal opinion, I think your chances are pretty high. Good luck!
UF decisions came out on 2/25/22. I was accepted into UF Honors and URSP.
