No, it's never too late to update universities on any achievement. Please mail the Admissions Office regarding the same.

Yes, most likely. If you get wait-listed anywhere, then I'd encourage you to write a LOCI Letter of Continued Interest with a link to the article.

I would definitely suggest updating it as that sounds like a huge achievement, so colleges would definitely be interested in knowing that!
