Should I take less effort electives my senior year?
Answered

I'm a freshman, planning my schedule for the next three years. I have some open space my senior year, would taking fewer effort electives to fill these spaces reduce my chances of getting into college? There are hardly any 1-trimester courses at my school that'll help me.

No, especially if you plan on applying to top universities. Schools really want to see you going into classes that correlate with either your major or show your ability to keep up with college-level classwork! Sure, you don't have to take all AP classes, but don't completely abandon challenging classes as they show you are not one to slack off when you receive an offer :). I have bee

Don't sacrifice electives you will enjoy because of college, especially not senior year. If anything, junior year would be the time to leave out electives in exchange for more advanced classes since junior year is the most important to colleges.

Good afternoon,

Colleges want to see you taking classes/electives/extracurriculars based on your interests. So while I wouldn't worry about taking lower-effort electives (especially if they match your intended field of study), I also wouldn't recommend taking a bunch of "filler classes." Also, work with your parents and your guidance counselor on your four-year plan (they really are there to help you).

Hopefully, this was helpful, and I wish you luck with your planning!
