AP Seminar vs. Chinese (language credit)
Answered

Hi all,

I was debating between taking AP Seminar/Research versus Chinese I/II for my upcoming two school years. I don't know which set of classes would be more beneficial to take, but I'm leaning towards taking AP Seminar/Research due to the fact that I can take Chinese I/II online as a summer credit. Can someone please let me know your input on this dilemma?

Thank you!

I would definitely go with AP Seminar/Research. Completing the AP Capstone program is a big accomplishment, and will attract you to colleges more than a foreign language (unless you want to major in Chinese). However, if you have the option to take Chinese during the summer, I would do that as well. Personally, I've found that taking online language courses can be less demanding than in-person, and taking a difficult language like Chinese would probably be best when you don't have other classes to work on.

Hopefully, you found this helpful, and I wish you luck with your classes!

I would look at your high school graduation requirements. Most colleges do recommend 3-4 language classes throughout your high school career and both classes will make you look better on an application. I would take Chinese in summer and AP in your school year. I don't have much personal experience with chinese as a language, though, so make sure it is a language you will be able to learn successfully in an online format.
