Extra Curriculars
Answered

I was on the varsity team last year for my schools soccer team but chose not to do it this year because the team was very toxic and was not good for my mental health. Can I still have soccer on my extracurricular list if I am not currently playing on a team? I plan to continue soccer in the future. I am currently looking for a new team to join but I don't know when I will be on a new team yet.

You should definitely put down soccer on your ECs but clarify that you did HS Soccer from (XX/XXXX to XX/XXXX dates) and that your are currently in a Club Soccer team if you find one.

I found that if you do not have good coach that leads by example and encourages teamwork and supports 100% of all members of the team, then that team only caters to athletes that the coach self-identifies with as valuable, diminishing the membership of other players. If you are not a top athlete in the coaches eyes, you are just going to waste your time on this team and its better to find a better team. The same goes with jobs, clubs, and other teams in your life. Don't be afraid to find your own people and team that supports and encourages you to be your best.

Good luck.

You can still include it for your extracurriculars. As long as you did it in Highschool, I’m pretty sure all ecs are fair game to add to your application, even if you are no longer involved in it.

That being said, I would try and find a team as soon as possible to join. Colleges typically are looking for athletes that are invested in a sport & are recruiting material. Staying involved in soccer will show them that you are committed. Hope this helps!
