I'm currently in S4 (I think this is the equivalent to sophomore in the USA?) and I want to get some work experience somewhere this summer. I'm thinking maybe asking my local newspaper, or contacting a law firm or something like that. At university I'd want to major in english, political science, economics or maybe computing science (I know this is a very wide range).
I'm currently volunteering at my local library, where I teach classes to the elderly on working technology, as well as clubs for kids about reading. I'm also part of my school's debate team and a 'reading ambassador' which is basically where I write book reviews for the school newsletter.
What do you think would be a useful form of work experience for applications? that kind of cover my possible majors?
Hello,
Work a job that you believe will help your future. If it's English, maybe you should contact a local newspaper, if political science, contact a law firm who is hiring. If computer science, that one is a bit tricky because jobs sometimes require experience on it. Usually with newspapers however, they're becoming less popular because of the demand of online news. A law firm might be your best choice for working with people, and getting a new environment.
Good luck, and be safe.
