hello! I'm currently a sophomore and I have been panicking about grades. Last year, I took all regular classes and ended with a 4.0 unweighted and weighted. I got recommended for two advanced level classes and got an A in one of them and a B in the other. Last semester, I got a total of three b's, and three a's. Those grades aren't good to me and I am working hard this semester to improve and this semester has been going well! In my freshman year, I did one club and then was nominated to become one of the presidents of the club by the end of the school year. Now, in my sophomore year, I am still a president of the club, and the social media manager of two clubs. I have three leadership roles next year already planned, and three roles that deal with public relations. I did speech team, book club, two volunteering-focused clubs (one on animals, one on uplifting others), red cross club, and I got into french honors society because of academic achievement. And I was on the gold honor roll for the past three semesters (3.8 and above gpa). I'm freaking out about my grades from last semester, it went horrifically in my eyes. Currently I have a 3.94 weighted gpa. Did I blow it last semester with getting three b's? How do I improve? How can I make up for it? Please, any advice helps me.
Hi @kristinajames0!
It's fine, you still have time. Work hard and study hard these last few months, and if you are taking AP make sure you study and practice for it. It's not that big of a deal, you still have Junior year. Work hard to improve your grades then keep it up. Try getting more leadership and volunteering. If you have any extracurricular activities that you are good at, make sure you focus on that as well.
Good luck!
It's not that serious lol ur a sophomore, just try ur best. You are doing better than 95% of students.
I think you still have room to grow, but aren't doing too badly. Just keep those grades up and maybe sign up for advanced courses next year as well to keep showing rigor. Try and get leadership roles where you can, and take initiative (organize projects, etc.). Otherwise, you got this!
Hi, thank you for asking your question. In short, I would say that you did not ruin your GPA in anyway. As long are you are taking higher level classes that are related to what you want to apply to college with, and are doing well in those courses you are fine. According to our math, the average competitive applicant to selective US universities (top 40) have at least a 3.75 GPA (3.75+ in AP, 3.85+ in honors and 4.0 in CP courses). Again these numbers are minimum scores you should try to obtain and also include legacy and athletes so may be deflated a little bit. To better understand what admissions officers are looking at in top schools I would highly recommend watching this livestream to see how your grades fit into the many other elements of your application.
As a sophomore you still have time. It’s good that you want to maintain a high GPA. I would say try to continue to score high in your classes especially in report cards. Because a drop in grades even if they are still passing grades can affect your overall GPA.
