For the Class of 2026, the acceptance rate at Rice was 8.56%.
This year Rice receive a record 31424 applications and admitted 2691.
Last year Rice received 29544 and admitted 2802 (from RICE press release)
I think one main reason more applications were received is because RICE improved their financial aid which was already some of the best finaid in the country.
The top income limit for free tuition was improved to $140K from $130K
The top family income limit for a full ride was improved to $75K from $65K.
And I'm not sure what this means but they improved loan free aid to families earning up to $200K. I'm guessing that if a family had multiple siblings in private school or college, and they had $200 income, they would still qualify for some financial aid.
