Even though official numbers are not out, this newsletter spills the beans and states that Tulane received about 42000 applications (vs 45517) and that they are going to accept about 10% this year (vs. 9.73%) last year.

Personally, I'm in awe that Tulane's admit rate is holding to that 10% mark because I think there are other alternatives that seem to be more prestigious, academically rigorous, and have a better looking campus life than Tulane. For example Georgetown, USC, UCLA, WashU, Emory, UVA, NotreDame, Tufts, BC, BU to name a few.
I'm not sure if Tulane has always been unusual or if it's just this year, but there are two females from the same high school, both white and from similar socioeconomic backgrounds. The first is ranked 9th out of 300; the second is ranked 150th out of 300. The first applies with test scores in the mid-1500s, while the second applies without test scores. Guess which one was accepted? Yep, the second one. (There are no exceptional abilities, extracurricular activities, hooks, or legacies...)
Weird right?
