Hi, I am a rising sophmore and I am interested in actuarial science. I am unsure of what extracurriculars, ap classes, and colleges are best for this major. Any advice? Thanks.
This CollegeVine blog post has some general advice about the steps to take in high school to prepare for a career in actuarial science.
Beyond this, I would recommend taking AP Statistics first and foremost. AP Calculus AB/BC, AP Computer Science, and AP Micro/macroeconomics will also be beneficial for you. I recommend taking AP US History as well - it will show that you are well rounded and it will develop your analysis skills, which are important in actuarial science. Business electives, as well as classes related to the medical field if health insurance is your career focus, will also prepare you for college.
To find the right college for you, I recommend checking out this blog post listing all of the US colleges with an actuarial science major. You can then plug these into the chancing engine on your CollegeVine profile to see rankings and your odds of admission. Hope this helps!
The Ap classes you should do are
AP stats
AP economics (Macro/Micro)
AP Calc Ab ( good for general reference)
As for extracurriculars
Math Competitions
Business club (DECA, FBLA, etc.)
As for colleges (you can google this too)
UPenn is the best
