Should I cancel an application?
Answered

Hi! I'm planning on studying Marketing/MIS in a business school (undergrad).

I have applied to McGill (which is currently my top choice). However, I applied to both the School of Management and the School of Arts.

I recently heard somewhere that it's better to apply to only one school because why would one department compete with the other...?

Since management is my first choice, should I withdraw my application to the school of arts because I would rather get into the school of management and would almost guarantee to go there if I get in?

There is no harm in applying to multiple schools within the same university. Since your admission to the School of Management is not guaranteed, it is good to have the School of Arts as a backup. Though the applications to each school are separate, they are a part of one university which cares most of all about qualified applicants accepting their offers of admission. Hope this helps!

If you are guaranteed to get it, that's great. If you're sure you want to go in to management, that's great too. However, I have heard it's good to apply for more than one college just in case you don't get accepted. You probably could withdraw your application for the School of Arts and maybe apply to another college with a management program.
